Do you remember me? Yeah I remember you... you're the slum drunk Yup, I said that too, then gave her flower to Tifa and BAM date with Tifa at the Gold Saucer. I wonder what Cloud's date with Barret would be like. That's the only one I haven't seen yet. I'm thought for sure I would get it when I had Cloud tell Don Corneo that Barret was his lover, but meh, guess not. Haha.

If you want to see the script to Cloud and Barret's date, you can always look it up on the Internet. I found a good website that had the script to that date, but I don't remember where I found it, other wise I would offer you a link .

*revives* Rereading this thread, I see that no pro Cloud/Aerith members have replied to the last couple of points. My post 37 is still languishing in wait of a reply. Sylla? Still interested in debating? I can defend a stronger stance if you like. The game is ambiguous enough that Cloud's feelings for Aerith aren't all that obvious romantically speaking. Where in the game do we see clear evidence that Cloud is romantically attracted to Aerith?

Um... I've completely lost the thread of my argument (and it's dinnertime). I guess I'll go back and look over it, but for now... eh. =P

Cloud's a blank slate, mostly. It reflects the designers' attempt to pool young teenage boys into the game through having Cloud as a spokesperson for them (explains why you can't change the m*th*rf**k*r out of the leading lineup, affecting your in-game tactics as a result).
Cloud can achieve one of four possible Gold Saucer dates: Aerith, Barret, Tifa, or Yuffie. The game chooses according to player behavior; certain conversations involve one of two responses from Cloud/the player which affects how others perceive Cloud. You can pick several bad choices in front of Aerith and several good choices in front of Tifa... and then Tifa's in the play and riding the gondola with you. After the date, Aerith's subsequent death, and Disc II goes into the console, you stop seeing such conversations. They are littered throughout the first one.
I would say Cloud deserves neither. If he always acts so dispassionate toward Tifa, then his mourning takes a sinister turn. He doesn't feel worthy to accept Tifa's love because he thinks he can't reciprocate properly or have the strength to protect her. Advent Children may be a case where Aerith has to come back from the dead and scream it into his ear for him to break a cycle within himself. If he didn't learn after that, then there's just no chance that he should pair with either one of them.
Hence, no vote from me.

I may have missed this if it is already listed, but no where have I ever seen Aeris claim to 'love' Cloud. She admits that she is attracted to him, at first because he reminds her of Zack, but in time she realized what has happened to some extent (que date dialog and use your knowledge of her being an Ancient), she states "I want to meet you." so Cloud becomes more of a quest than a love attraction. She doesn't want to believe that she was attracted to Cloud only because she saw what he had absorbed of Zack's personality. Aerith never gets the chance to know 'Cloud', so no vote for AerithxCloud.
As for CloudxTifa, Cloud obviously cares what Tifa thinks, other wise he wouldn't have been afraid of her finding out that he was just a grunt still. There are no doubts about Tifa's attraction to Cloud. I believe post AC he would finally feel as if he is 'man enough' for Tifa. The prolbem I see before that is that Tifa is always telling Cloud that he is her strenght, hero and protector, that he has to be the night in shining armor, but the whole time he feels he is needing to be rescued. Her constant attempts to blow up his ego only seem to make him more afraid of failure. (the higher the pedestal the more pieces one breaks into when they fall).
Anyhow if/when they come out with the game/movie hosting Genesis come back, we may get to see a wedding for Cloud and Tifa (which I fear will have scenes of Yuffie insisting on horid shades of pink..... yet putting the men of FFVII in suits is very appealing but I digress). I honestly have to say though that if that happens it will be one more element of 'fantasy' that they have removed from the Final Fantasy world.
Which brings me to my conclusion that neither pairing is really canon because the point was to leave it up to imagination and fantasy.
(if you can't tell I'm not crazy about the Ultimate Guide shiznit they came out with.)

OMG that would be sooooooooo cute!!! Yay!!
Yep, since my little Cloud can't have his poor Zack, I still squee for CloudxTifa.

I may have missed this if it is already listed, but no where have I ever seen Aeris claim to 'love' Cloud. That's an interesting claim, but I think it is rather obvious that Aerith is romantically interested in Cloud. And I took her statement 'I want to meet you' as meaning that she's interested in the real Cloud - she wants to know who he really is. Whether or not it is canon is debatable, but in Maiden, Aerith does say that she loves Cloud.

Yeah... but she might not be in love with Cloud!
On that note, that makes Zack something of a little fit of whimsy, a flirtatious little crush... or the guy who's not as compelling as the new one in her life. I mean, she reads Zack like an open book, but seeing only Zack-like behavior in Cloud makes her want to get past that shoddy cover and read the pages themselves. Aerith tends to be thrilled by danger, mysteries, and the unknown. I wouldn't be surprised if she is a regular subscriber in horror literature on that basis.

Maiden says (paraphrased) that 'she loved [Cloud] much more than her first love' (meaning Zack). Make of that what you will.
Zack wasn't merely a crush though. She did go out with him for quite a while. I guess Crisis Core will shed more light on their relationship.
Essentially, the Compilation seems to be going for Zack/Aerith and Cloud/Tifa.

Oh God the Zack/Aerith thing is just so much more tragic and beautiful to me then Aerith/Cloud. I've only seen a few clips from Crisis core but they are absolutely heartwrenching, the way she suddenly looks up when he dies, the way she hugs him when he cries, the way he calls her an angel....
It's just beautiful, and would be painfully depressing if it wasn't for the fact that she's with him again in the afterlife.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y1k5Y6C_Pg&NR=1Hidden/removed scene only available if you have a GameShark. Interpret it as you will, but I thought it was interesting and decided to post it here as it can support CloTi.

I suppose if you look at it from the Cloud after Aeris' death part, there's some heavily hinted canon-ness in Cleris/Cloris/Clerith or whatever you call it.
But I still hold out for CloTi, and not just because of NRGburst's fantastic story (Full Circle). Personally, it's more the fact that I'm a heavy shipper for Zerith/Zeris. After all, there was more-than-hinting in Crisis Core about the two of them.
CloTi, also, has grounds in the fact that Tifa and Cloud grew up together, with Cloud falling in love with her at a very young age and eager to win her attention and affection. Also, the Golden Saucer date scene...I disagree that there was no chemistry between Tifa and Cloud. There was.
Yup, my stand.

I've always preferred CloTi because I think it makes more sense. It's true that Tifa was no particularly close to Cloud when they were children, but Cloud states in his subconscious that he had a crush on her and that his joining SOLDIER was to impress her. After that, it's obvious that Tifa responds. Like Moira said, there is definite chemistry during the Gold Saucer date scene. Definitely moreso than the date with Aerith anyway. Also, depending on the version of the 'under the Highwind' scene you get, Tifa's feelings are made obvious, even though Cloud's remain obscure. Maybe I'm just a sap, but because of all of that, I think they're better together. Aerith, to me, is in it more out of curiosity than anything else. She sees Zack in Cloud and seems to be testing Tifa's feelings at times. Also, she irritates me biased much?

Cloti does make more sense. It's plane as day judging from the narrative that Cloud's feelings are with Tifa, and have always been with Tifa. It was part of the big plot Twist that came in the Lifestream. And the scene under the Highwind? They weren't just sleeping, let me tell you. It's quite apparent that they only reason Aerith was attracted to Cloud was because she saw him as a Zack replacement, which he literally turned out to be. Crisis Core makes it more than obvious her and Zack were supposed to be the canon along side Cloud/Tifa. Oh and the CC Ultimania blatantly states that Cloud and Tifa realize their feelings for each other at the end of FFVII and hence that is why they are living together afterward. And for those who like to argue that MWTP (which is a crappy piece of fiction IMHO) is canon, remember this: Even if it was, Aerith loving Cloud more than Zack does not mean Cloud loves Aerith more than Tifa. If anything, Aerith gives the two of them her blessing to bet together during the story. But in any case we don't even have to worry because that story isn't referenced in the Anniversary or CC Ultimanias along with everything else, AND it has been retconned to death by both CC and DoC.
