Discuss the tenth Final Fantasy here. FFX had some really great characters, I thought. Auron was cool and I liked Rikku and Yuna. This was the first FF to include voice acting as well. The voice acting was mixed, in my opinion. Tidus' American accent annoyed me right from the start and I wasn't that keen on Yuna's voice either. But with most of the characters, being able to hear them really did add more depth. The storyline was good, the battle system worked well, although I found it a bit slow compared to other FFs, and the Monster Arena is addictive. But wow, those Dark Aeons are tough. I think I used Yojimbo to beat most of them. Anyway, any thoughts? What did you think of this game?

It's one of my favorites out of all the FF games I've played. Tidus just sort of annoyed me overall because he complains a lot and such. (Grow up dude!) Auron, Yuna, and Rikku (In that order) were my 3 favorites out of the main characters. I thought Auron just kicked arse! Yuna was also nice, sincere, kind, cheerful. I just wish she had done some things her way, spread her wings as Lulu says. (Though she may have not beaten sin, and she does in FFX-2) I agree, the battle system was slow, but I enjoyed being able to plan out get a strategy for my attacks. Theres a decent amount of stuff you can do on the side as well to get stronger, like the celestial weapons, and getting the magus sisters.

You know, it's funny that you started this thread when you did, because I was actually playing it last night while meditating on further ideas for Calamity's fic challenge.
I loved it. FFX is my second favorite FF game. I love the party - I liked all the characters at least a little. I loved the world of Spira and I LOVED the Aeons- especially Valefore and Ifrit (whom I always name Asura). ^_^
Knowing exactly how many turns you were going to get before the next enemy action was a nifty idea- though not exactly a very relistic one since I wasn't exactly dedicating someone in my party to divineing it on a continuous basis!!
The battle system in X was so easy to master that I never died- not until I found that secret dungeon and ran into a pair of those demon wall things for the first time. I have had a special fondness for capturing those annoying monsters ever since.
Killing the summoned pet monsters broke my heart and then fighting them a second time in X-2 made me wanna lay the smack down on the responsible game designer's candy &*%... I had the same reaction Yuna did after the battle with dark Ixion in the Djose temple. I felt cheated that the Aeons still weren't free. They kind of had personality and a fondness for Yuna that I really liked.
But the bittersweet ending of X makes me shy away from writing fics about it- or at least it has so far.
This game is hard for me to talk about without bringing up its direct sequel though. I hated their attempt at making Yuna sexy without telling us anything about what she'd been up to since game ten...
Call it a pet peeve but when a main character does almost a complete 180 in how they dress without really changing personality and disposition, that just screams "boost sales with being sexy".
Yuna is free to do and act as she wants now, yes I know that but I doubt that she's been dating much since Tidus dissapeared, so for her to suddenly discover how to be sexy struck me as awkward and implausible.
If I ever see another game with dresspheres in it; it will be too damn soon. Especially the lady luck pile o crap and the songstress spheres

(Grow up dude!) going to jump in real quick: i liked tidus. i could forgive his complaining (even though i considered it more curiosity than anything else) because it was actually realistic. after having his "home" destroyed, he was swept off to a foreign land where he knew nothing of the cultures, etc.--plus he was only a kid; seventeen years old. meh. it never bothered me. just thought i'd stick up for the kid. ;p

Tidus was okay; it was just his voice that bothered me.
As for X-2, it was enjoyable to play and the characters were fun, but I didn't like how they changed Yuna's character so much. It kind of ruined the bittersweet ending of FFX. And it came off as more cheesy than sexy, imo. I liked the dresspheres though. The battles were faster and more dynamic. But there wasn't a huge amount of substance to the storyline.
FFX's plot was better, if a little slow with all the cutscenes.

Tidus was okay; it was just his voice that bothered me. hahaha. yeah, i know what you mean. especially whenever he yelled something... ugh. i never liked x-2. in fact, i like to pretend that it never happened. yuna even looked ugly in that game (why, oh why did they change her face?). and i agree, they ruined the ending to the first game (even though the little fangirl inside of me likes to think that he did come back, in the end). the sequel was unnecessary--they should have used the new characters in x-2 for another final fantasy game, because some of those new characters were pretty interesting by themselves.

I'm stuck at the part with the shoopuf [sp?] and the Al Bhed kidnap Yuna. Then you go underwater and fight that, uh... metal thingy. But this has nothing to do with the post.
So far, I like the story of the game and the way it was introduced.

I agree with the general opinion here that X-2 definately overused the whole sex appeal thing. I mean, their costumes were awesome, they just didn't suit Yuna's character. I imagined her dressing like a widowed nun after Tidus died, not suddenly growing a pair of shapely legs. Its like Aeris or Quitus going around in mini shorts.
I did like the whole Lenne/Shuin story though, it was very sad and mirrored Yuna and Tidus's own story perfectly. I also liked how they depicted a post-sin Spira, it was pretty realistic, with the different factions.
And for X itself? I loved it, characters, setting story line. The only thing that peeved me off was Yuna's voice. I kept expecting her to have an asthma attack cause her voice was so faint nd wheezy. apart from that, it was awesome.

Time for me to be the badguy and say I'm not too fond of FFX. XD I do OWN the game, so that should say something, but it's far from one of my favorite games. Plotholes, for one. The whole game could very well be considered a paradox, but I don't want to get into theory and all that good stuff right now--I'm sure many of you could prove me wrong, anyway. ^^ But something that grates on my nerves--if Auron died as a young man, how on EARTH did he age? I didn't feel like I could relate to any of the characters, and as I've posted numerous times before, I like my fictional characters to be as realistic as possible. I didn't find them all that believeable--Yuna, namely. Her personality bothered me. The only character that I really did enjoy was Lulu, and even then, she's not among my favorite of characters. The sphere grid, I hated at first, but it's not too bad I suppose. I like the idea of customizing your characters, but they could've made the system much more organized than a huge board that you have to scroll around to find anything. I also hated the way the world map was set up, restricting free travel and keeping you on one set path the entire game. Even with the hidden areas on the map, it just wasn't as enjoyable as being able to wander around like most games in the series. The lack of sidequesting disappointed me, because I love sidequests. I know there were a few, but not many, and not many that were enjoyable. Now I'll be nice. I DID really enjoy a couple aspects of the game--for one, the summons. I didn't really like their explaination in the game. (Ghosts of the dead from Zanarkand, right? It bothered me that ghosts of dead people took on the forms of these creatures. I think they could've had a better explaination than that.) Ack. I didn't mean to go negative there again. ANYWAY. Being able to call a summon into battle and for them to stay and fight, with their own HP and everything, was wonderful. I loved that you could customize their abilities like they were additional party members. Of all the FF games I've played, this is by far my favorite way of handling summons in battle. I also liked being able to switch party members in battle. That always helps in a pinch. VERY glad FFXII kept that feature! And, Blitzball. I am a Blitzball fiend. If SE made a spinoff game that was only Blitzball, I'd buy it. I found myself turning on the game to just play Blitzball, then turning it off. I don't know WHY, but I just got really addicted to it really quick.

I wasn't that fond of Blitzball. After the first few matches you play, it quickly becomes too easy. Especially if you hire Brother to play in the centre. Winning was so easy that I found myself simply trying to score as many goals as possible within the time limit... I think my best score was 11-0.

I know a lot of people that didn't like it, either because it was too hard, too confusing, or too easy. I somewhat agree with you. (I never recruited Brother, though--but Ropp, a shopkeeper from I-don't-remember-where, made an amazing center.) It did start getting easy after a little while, but at a certain point you go into the second season, I think it is, and all the opposing teams suddenly get harder. I also thought it was more or less a struggle until you learn a decent amount of techniques to use, because when the opponents have, say, venom tackle and you don't have antidote, it kinda sucks. =/

After getting beat in the finals of the tournament, I never had the urge to play blitz again. I thought it was ridiculously slow and too confusing to learn. I have never had the patience to play many of the minigames though- in any of the FF games. I liked the snowboarding and the chocobo races in 7 though.
