Uh. I loved and hated FFX. I hated Tidus, I think he's my least favourite lead FF character ever. And the whole flashback-voice over bit just screamed the Wonder Years, and I hated that too. For some reason the closer to the story-telling bit we get, the more mature and bearable Tidus gets. Then afterwards he seems to revert back to his annoying whiny personality.
There are some great characters to make up for it though. Auron was cool, Rikku was fun and I really liked Yuna. Wakka and Khimari seemed a bit like extra wheels to me. Blitzball was great as well, I spent ages and ages playing it. Seymour was bleh - like a bad attempt at a Sephiroth-Kuja hybrid that went horribly wrong.
I think in the end I racked up over a hundred hours on it, mainly due to blitzball and training my team to defeat Dark Aeons (mainly Dark Yojimbo because the Zanmato trick doesnt work six times in a row - SIX TIMES! Who the heck came up with that insanity?!).

Has anyone noticed the parallels between VII and X? I mean character wise. Yuna=Aerith (Both got that innocent, sweet, fun, deeply deeply irratating thing going) Auron=Vincent (they're both technically dead, and they dress pretty similar, and they're both kinda moody...) Rikku=Yuffie (Both thieves, both from a damaged country/race, both young, cheerful, upbeat etc) Tidus=Cloud ( Blond.) Sorry, I just had to say that; too good to resist. Anyway, I'm quite fond of X myself. Every time I see Tidus and Yuna talk to each other or even just stand side by side, I'm all like "Awwww!" And Yuna's theme breaks my heart every time I listen to it; it's so sweet and sad! In my mind that piece of music sums up what Spira's about. I really liked the story behind X (even though sometimes it doesn't make sense), and the whole world of Spira. I thought it was cool.^^ Though as a side note, I never figured out how to beat the Dark Aeons, which sucks because I need to get past them to get some of the legendary weapons. Rgh. Oh, and: I've been spoiled for the ending by reading some fanfiction, and have fallen heavily in love with Auron/Rikku (don't kill me), which sometimes rivals my love for Yuffie/Vincent (the only problem is that there is a scarcity for competent writers in both of those pairings). Spoilers suck, PAS- but have you seen a fic on FFnet called "Memento Vivere" by Enkida? It's a really good Aruikku fic and I love it to bits. ;D

WOO! Aurikku fans! I am crazy Aurikku fangirl. Crazy Y'hear?! They were my 2nd ship ever XDD I know all the things that are insanely wrong with this pairing, but I DON'T CARE! They just balance each other out really well. X had really good music, in response to your Yuna-theme comment Sylla. Definitly one of the best soundtracks of all the games (my favorite is 8 - Garden music just makes me HAPPY) Although I don't go 'aww' when Yuna speaks, I generally laugh/want to hit her. *checks out that fic when she gets home from school*

Who the heck came up with that insanity?!). Argh, I know. I think I managed to beat maybe three or four Dark Aeons, and that by cheating using Zanmato. I can level up my party for so long but eventually I get bored, so I've never managed to get them good enough to beat the most difficult bosses. I think I got most of the Celestial Weapons - except Kimahri's. I just can't do that butterfly catching thing. It's too hard! I'll second the recommendation for 'Memento Vivere'. I don't like Auron/Rikku at all, for similar reasons that I don't like Vincent/Yuffie, but I still enjoyed it. Maybe I'll lose my enthusiasm once the romance really gets going, but I'd like to think I can get over that if the story's good enough.

Levelling up was easy. I custom made some weapons with levelling bonuses and just ran back and forth through the snowy section before Macalania temple. I got like ten levels a fight and a huge stack of sphere levels to boot. By the time I could actually beat Dark Yojimbo in a fight Yuna had covered pretty much every single sphere on the grid, and the rest of the team were not far off.
I thought I was invincible by then. Then I met penance.

Yeah, and can you believe you have to win FOUR games to get Wakka's legendary weapon. So f*ck that. And dodging thunder, that can go f*ck itself. As can the butterflies, and pretty much everything you have to do to get those lame sigils/crests. (I'm at that point if it wasn't obvious. I hate stupid chocobos and the calm lands and the omega ruins. )

*phoenix down* So I just completed Final Fantasy X for the first time, after spending absolute aaaages d*cking around in the Omega Ruins, leveling up my party. I went in expecting Jecht to be wh*rishly difficult, and ended up killing him in about 30 seconds flat, because I used Tidus' and Auron's limit breaks and they each hit for 99,999. Turns out I was actually insanely over-leveled. And then (SPOILERS, yeah) there was the whole scene with Jecht and then Tidus disappeared. ... ... ... BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!Oh god, it's so sad! Just.. the WHOLE freaking ending was juuuust short of tragic. *sniffle* But then after the credits there's that little bit with Tidus and I was all like, "HE'S NOT DEAD!!1!!one! " ... Would've been better if they'd've just left it at that instead of creating FFX-2. *grumblegrumble* Also - and La, this is mainly for you - I found the scene where Seymour is finally defeated quite sad, too. (Yeah, I say 'quite sad'. What I mean is I was bawling, "Oh gawd poor Seymour he just wanted to save Spira, it's not his fault he was all twisted and evilish!") Poor guy. Really. La, you remeber that doujin/fic we dreamed up? I've totally got this reborn urge to DO IT DO IT NOW. =P

Holy crap, Sylla. S'more like a mega-phoenix down. >.>
FFX was seriously a great game. When ever I think back to the beginning, I can't help but sort of marvel how far of a journey it was. The musical score is haunting and excellent, and the plot is to die for. You become attached to each character and you feel for the story, so when it ends...
Well, I cried the first time I finished it. It was too epic and tragic an ending not to. But yeah, X-2 did sorta kinda ruin that and made it more pop-like and light-hearted. *sigh*
I'll never forget Tidus holding Yuna, or the look when she says "I love you," or any of it. It's etched into stone somewhere in my brain and heart.
Not to mention that Sin vs. airship was bad*ss like whoa.

@ youko: Giga Gravitation! lol, the airship battle was awesome, but it seriously discourages the use of Aeons (unless they're seriously over-leveled like my Bahamut, Magus Sisters, Anima) The music of FFX was to DIE for! I dunno how, but Square went from the goofy FFIX music to this sad, whimiscal beauty of FFX, but it happened. And now I have the OST. (Suteki da ne makes me cry! )

I started playing FFX again recently and for some reason I am managing to do everything in the game. I won the Blitzball trophy in Luca (do not know how), beat the Chocobo Eater, got Yojimbo and Anima without having to spend ages running around getting money/re-doing cloisters of trials. Now I just have to beat the damn chocobo breeder/tamer in the Calm Lands and get the sun sigil. And the other stuff too. *sigh* Maybe I'll just stick to obsessively doing hunts in FFXII...

Ha. Bliztball, how I loved thee...
I didn't beat the tournament on my first try either. I lost. Horribly. Then I got p****d, restarted the PS2, and played until I did win. And it was gloriously satisfying. x3

I actually pretty much loathed Blitzball until recently, simply because no matter what I did I COULD NOT WIN WHY CAN'T I WIN WHY WHY. ... Yours truly does not take kindly to losing.
But then I took it back up, paid more attention to the stats and tactics and whatnot (with the help of a handy Blitzball FAQ), and... won once. Then lost twice. But hey, I won once. =P

Now, if it were like, underwater Quidditch I'd have totally been able to do that.
But yeah. Haeeeeet Blitzball.

Gah, the hubs was near addicted to Blitzball. He loved that part of ff10. He'd spend a good couple of hours playing and I'd have to near beg him to go on with the darn storyline. Wakka's overdrives were achieved quite early on because he played so much Blitzball. Then he'd go around Spira scouting for new players. *head/desk*
