Ah but Maniac! Think, neither Genesis nor Angeal were (or at least seemed) to be as powerful as Sephiroth.
Without Zack's defeat at Nibleheim due to the hands of Sephiroth, then Zack and Cloud being experimented on and the rest of what happened to them (Zack fighting Genesis and all that) I don't think Genesis would have lived much longer.
It could really all depend on how you look at the information and how you visualize the links of events.
It truly is connected all to Jenova landing on the planet so many years ago no?
No Jenova, no Sephiroth, Angeal, and Genesis, no Soldier, possibly no need to defend against Meteor.
I suppose though, its all how you look at the chain of events. To me they are all so interconnected you mess one up early on, you mess all them up.

So, the true tragedy of the Gaia world would be Jenova landing on the planet all those years ago. Yes? No? Maybe so? I think you may have hit the nail on the head with that one. If Jenova hadn't come then a lot of stuff wouldn't have happened. Aren't you forgetting who started the Jenova project? Profesor Gast, Hollander and Hojo were his apprentices and he at first believed Jenova to be an ancient. Hollander and Hojo worked on seperate experiments at the same time to create Sephiroth, Genisis and Angeal. But also, Gast was romantically involved with Iflana, and we see a video of her tell Gast that Jenova was not an ancient. She was warning him of how dangerous she really was. And then Hojo killed Gast. I have a feeling that Gast was actually a good person. Maybe he would have stopped the Jenova project.

by then Project G and S had already been completed. So it was a bit to late.

by then Project G and S had already been completed. So it was a bit to late. Ah, true, true. Even still, no Hojo = no Sephiroth, since Hojo is Sephiroth's father (I've always found the concept a little weird since they are such different characters, but meh)

I agree with Tennyo on this one. Seriously, if Hojo hadn't been born, Sephiroth wouldn't have been born and if that didn't happen, no one would have burnt Nibelheim, gone mad, fallen into a reactor or wanted to dominate the world.
But then again, Jenova's landing sparked off the Jenova Cell Projects, so to say. Since without her cells, there is no Sephiroth either.
There are many roots to Sephiroth and Sephiroth being the core of all the problems, whichever thing caused his existence is probably to blame.

you still had Genesis running amock and without Sephiroth his desertion would have lengthand the Wutai war by a good couple of years.

So.... its not Hojo. Maybe we've agreed on that? Jenova's landing? Yes? No? Maybe?

YES!
I agree with Jeanne! She's the root of it. Or at least, as deep as I dug down.

*blinks* Moira the first time I read part of that I interpreted it wrong. I was like "Wait... I'm the root of it? What? Oooh..... nevermind aha... am I an idiot or what?"
Though, I think I might have remembered what I voted for... no. Forgot again which makes that last sentence totally useless.

you still had Genesis running amock and without Sephiroth his desertion would have lengthand the Wutai war by a good couple of years. But, if there was no Sephiroth would Genesis have still disserted? Maybe Genesis would have been the hero of Shinra, and maybe that would have made him happy enough to stay. Also, if there was no Hojo then Hollander would probably have been the head of the science department, and perhaps maybe he would have been able to do more for Genesis.

Well...when you talk about Genesis...true true.
Sigh, everything was necessary for everything else to happen I guess.
And Jeanne, I'M SO SORRY! I can't believe I wrote that! Sorry! I meant Jenova...but I guess you know that now.

*laughs* It's okay! I had a good laugh at myself the moment I realized exactly what it meant Moira. A very good laugh, I bent over the laptop cackling.... it was... not my brightest moment.
*hums* So... I don't have much to contribute to the conversation except what I've already said.
Hollander and Hojo used the cells in both their experiments, and even if the two never lived some other scientist would have come along and done it. Then there holds the possibility that by the time the scientists had done so no one would be ready to defend the Planet. Yes? No? Maybe?
(Well we already know the last bit is a maybe)

True...
But everyone's existence gave rise to good things and bad things. if Hojo wasn't a crackpot, then Sephiroth wouldn't have gone mad. And that gave us Cloud. If we had no Cloud, if another crackpot scientist had resurrected a Sephiroth-like person, then...Gaia would have fallen into his power. Unless of course that Sephiroth-like person gave rise to another Cloud-like person...
Well, if you got lost up there (I did!), basically, there will be things that will happen, and we can't change it without changing other things in life. And most of the time, if you're not the crackpot scientist that gave rise to Sephiroth, then another one has already done so.
And Jeanne, we all have our not-so-bright moments. That's why we're humans and not Gods.

Zack's death was insanely sad for me. I bawled like my baby brother. When you've played Crisis Core and gotten to know him...He becomes more than just a face and events. He becomes almost real, with almost tangible emotions. He is by far one of the best developed characters in the compilation.
Also, did the J-pop song at the end annoy anyone else? It bothered me because it sort of ruined an epic moment. I mean, I have nothing against J-pop, I listen to it, but a song from the OST would've been better.
