Oh my God, maniac, that scene always makes me cry, every time. It's probably one of the few from the original FF7 that actually do make me cry (Aeris' death does nothing for me; the closest I get to tears is when Zack dies in that flashback). I think it's the part where Seto starts crying that makes me get teary. XD

Omg!! Although I still maintain my choice of Zack's death, I totally forgot about Seto crying! That was so, so sad ...

I totally forgot about Seto crying! That was so, so sad ... Yes, that was the scene that got me. Maybe it was because Aerith's death was spoiled, I mean heck everyone knows what's going to happen, and I never saw the Seto thing coming but awww... Although you could say it's not actually all that tragic, as Red finds out his father's a hero and is still protecting Cosmo Canyon and everything. I'm torn between Zack's death and the Sector 7 plate. Zack's death goes without saying but the Sector 7 plate fall kills alot of people and well, is just such a horrible way to die

I voted for Aeris' death. I didn't give this one as much thought as everyone else seem to have, I just picked the one who made the biggest emotional impact on me. Zack's death would have been first if it weren't for his lack of screen time in the original game. You'd think that Cloud could have mentioned the guy who hauled his ass half-way round the earth a bit more. Zack is my favorite character of all times (which is awesome for me, since I always favor the main character, ALWAYS), but I try to remind myself that as a SOLDIER, he's probably killed people. And that is baaad. So Aeris get's some adventage on that point It's not really the Greatest Tradegy of all times, but peronally it is.

I was torn between Aeris' death and Zack's too. Aeris' was all "WTH! How could Sephiroth do that?" and when she flops down lifelessly, it's just...miserable, but I didn't cry. So I understand why you think it's sad.
But I chose Zack because he had the added fact that he knew FULL WELL that he was going to die, but he did it anyway, to save Cloud. That's the thing that gets me crying. I cried so much, my mum thought I failed my Literature paper or something. (Lit's very important to me)

That's what I think was so sad with Aeris' death, that she didn't know she was going to die. How she talked about the future and totally had the hooks for Cloud. And that kinda interesting too, I mean, it was kinda obvious Tifa liked Cloud, so why did Aeris still go all romantic with him? I can just imagine Aeris hugging Cloud and sticking out her tongue at Tifa, like, 'he's mine pregnant dog.' Kinda.
Edit: pregnant dog? Heh, that's funny xD

I'm sad about Aerith like "seducing" Cloud. I just think, like, he's for Tifa right? Or maybe it's just me, but I wholeheartedly think so. (My favourite ships are ZackAerith and TifaCloud as you can see).
But to each his/her own.

I'm gonna go with the Sector 7 plate drop. Simply because it was a disaster. Millions of people, children and infants as well, lost their lives in that, and frankly, my heart strings were tugged quite hard.

I voted Nibelheim because really, a lot of the bad stuff that happened in FFVII probably never would have happened if the Nibelheim incident had never occurred.

Naw... greatest tradgedy.... Hojo being born Kidding! I don't even remember what I voted anymore...

I think so too!
Hojo caused most of the trouble. But Nibelheim is a close second.
Though somehow, if we had no Nibelheim, we wouldn't have our favourite characters becoming more prominent. I guess all of these scenes are infinitely sad, but totally necessary, imo.

Naw... greatest tradgedy.... Hojo being born Kidding! I don't even remember what I voted anymore... This is so true! Hojo is the cause of everything! Really when you think about it he is. He is responsible for the Jenova project, Sephiroth being born, Hollander's hatred toward Shinra. If it hadn't been for Hojo there would have been no Sephiroth, therefore no Nibelheim, therefore Zack wouldn't have died the way he did and neither would have Aerith! There would have also been no Meteor crisis, and perhaps no Geostigma, either. Vincent wouldn't have been experimented on, Lucrecia wouldn't have locker herself inside that crystal, and perhaps even Deepground may not have come into being, which would result in no mass disappearances.

See I'm smart ! Then again I think quite a few people have come to this conclusion at one point or another. Hojo seems to be the root of all evil, but really Jenova's coming helped too. If the scientists hadn't used Jenova because Hojo wasn't around you can bet some other corrupt Shinra Scientist would have done it. This would create a problem because its entirely possible Gaia wouldn't have had people like Tifa and the others when this happened. The world would have had another Sephiroth, but no heroes to defend it from Meteor-fall or something. I can't see the sequence of events that brought about the game, and its defenders, being the exact same if Hojo hadn't been born. I suppose tragedy goes hand in hand with healing or redemption or some such thing. So, the true tragedy of the Gaia world would be Jenova landing on the planet all those years ago. Yes? No? Maybe so?

Aren't you forgetting who started the Jenova project? Profesor Gast, Hollander and Hojo were his apprentices and he at first believed Jenova to be an ancient. Hollander and Hojo worked on seperate experiments at the same time to create Sephiroth, Genisis and Angeal.
