Hmm does a pairing have to be canon or plausible to be enjoyable? No, a pairing does not have to be canon to be enjoyable, but I like the ones that are the best. I am so fond of the compilation that when I read a fanfic; I want it to add onto the story we know so far rather than tell me a new one. A story does need to be plausible though. I'm another one that won't click the link if I don't think the pairing could happen- in most cases that is even in the case of very reputable authors. Everyone by now ought to know my fave pairs... as many times as I've said this... I'm all about the Cloud/Tifa and Zack/Cloud. not necessarily in that order anymore though... ^_^ My least fave pairing is without a doubt Sephiroth/Cloud. There is just something about that idea of them together that really creeps me out- even when it is pre-Nibelheim Sephiroth.

Hmm does a pairing have to be canon or plausible to be enjoyable? I think that depends on the individual. For me, a pairing would have to be plausible or at least written plausibly for me to enjoy it (except for crack fics). I also tend to enjoy canon pairings more, simply because they usually work well with the characters by virtue of being canon. XD

Psst, I'm a noob. Someone explain the term canon to me? Is it a really obvious relationship like Ron Hermione in Harry Potter and Ash Misty in pokemon? I see the phrase all over Fanfiction and dunno what it means...

A relationship or idea is canon when it is clearly stated and or represented by the original media. In other words, yes. Ron/Hermione in HP are a canon pairing.
Cloud/Aerith and Cloud/Tifa are both canon in FFVII, however there are people who believe that Cloud favors one relationship over the other. I don't think that is the case. I think Cloud had lots of room in his heart for both of them he just wasn't ready to act on his feelings for Tifa until sometime after AC.

Em, Val dear, you've just said that: Okay, so Cloud doesn't prefer ne of the girls over the other. But just after that: ... Didn't you just contradict yourself there? Course I'm biased as I prefer Clorith over Cloti, but I really think that if Cloud prefered Tifa over Aeris, he woud have acted by now. Anyway. My absolute favorite FFVII pairing is and ever will be CloudxAeris. Duh. But I also like TifaxVincent. I dunno, they just seem to work together. I'm with Ink, against Remnants/Anyone, Sephiroth/Remnants (heaven forfend!), etc. There's a special place in Hell for people who write those. In fact, yaoi in general isn't my cup of tea, though there are, like, all of two pairings that could actually work. Reno/Rude or Cloud/Zack. (And after all that time, it turned out Cloud was gay and angsting over the fact that Zack was dead. Sux 2 B U, Aeris & Tifa.) On second thoughts, scratch the first one. Can't two guys be friends without hoards of fangirls wanting them to hook up?? ... Stupid question, I know.

Nope I said exactly what I meant. Cloud doesn't like to rush into things. I have said numerous times on other threads that I don't think Cloud would have been able to choose between Aerith and Tifa if Aerith had survived. What exactly is wrong with him taking some time to figure out what he wants and where he is going from there? Especially since Cloud is DYING at the beginning of AC. He's already put Tifa through watching him suffer with Mako poisoning. Why in the hell would he want to force her to watch him die from an incurable disease?

Course I'm biased as I prefer Clorith over Cloti, but I really think that if Cloud prefered Tifa over Aeris, he woud have acted by now. Well, I think that Cloud and Tifa did get together soon after the end of the game. By the time AC rolls around, their relationship is in big trouble - they've broken up, but get back together again when AC ends. I find this more plausible than the idea that they lived together platonically for two years and then some time after AC Cloud will finally get his act together and the two will become a couple. Yep, that's why I prefer Cloud and Zack as friends. They have a great friendship, which I think is much cuter than a romantic relationship.

I like Zack and Cloud as friends too- I'm just naturally pervy and there is plenty of ammo in CC to draw from for there being something more too... I haven't even posted all of it.

I know Cloud likes to think his way through things (at length), Val. I suppose I misunderstood your post then. But... Cloud's already making Tifa suffer by pulling away, despite the fact that she pleads with him to stay with them to fight the disease together; now that could just be Cloud being stupid, but I think pulling away is just the his way of dealing with things. Besides, there's that scene in AC where Tifa asks, "What is it, a memory or us?" and he doesn't answer; I think it's because he can't get over Aeris, but cares about Tifa so much he doesn't want to say something like "Oh, I think I'll choose the memory, sorry Teef," and hurt her when he knows she cares for him. I just don't find any real indication that Cloud is now 'ready' to go off with Tifa- and I think he'd consider it an insult to Aeris' memory (or some such thing) to go "Oh well, sh*t happens, I guess I'll just go off with the girl that survived." Also, while Squeenix's official standpoint is that Cloud cares for both of them very much, there are some things in the games- like the fact that the most likely candidate for the date scene is Aeris, then Tifa, or that Aeris was the one they originally put in the KH games (with Cloud)- that make me think that maybe, just maybe, Cloud would have gone with Aeris. But of course, that's me. Oh dear, we're going to turn this into a 'Which Is More Canon' discussion if we're not careful. Edit: Pied, don't you think there would have been some mention of that in AC if it had happened that way? Besides, Cloud is fiercely loyal- I don't think it's like him tocut off his relationship run for the hills as soon as he discoveres he has Geostigma.

I could go into detail about why I think this is the most plausible interpretation, but as you say, this is turning into a 'which is more canon' discussion, and I think that would be best discussed in another thread. Feel free to start one if you would like to continue the discussion - I'm sure we're all mature enough to discuss this in a civil manner.

I wouldn't really count on that, Pied. Of course I trust my fellow forum members, but my own blood pressure starts to rise dangerously and I start to foam at the mouth whenever I see people ship Cloud and Tifa.
(Intolerant? Me?)
On second thoughts. maybe I will start a thread on it- just to see what happens. =P

They are both canon.
One reason we aren't lead too much one way or the other is that it gives fans more to talk- and debate about at the end of the game. To come right out and say he prefers _______ would take away a lot of the imagination we are allowed to have with the various pieces of the compilation.
I see nothing wrong with enjoying both pairings for their respective differences as well as the ways that they are similar.

Oh someone who feels strongly against Cloud/Tifa. XD This forum is so lacking in such people.
Anyway my least favourite pairing has got to be err Cloud/Tifa. I avoid fics whose main pairing is Cloti like the plague.
Favourite pairings are harder to decide but I'm quite a fan of yaoi occasionally and err I don't mind pairings that aren't plausible. They might not be award worthy but hey sometimes reading fanfiction is about enjoyment and getting to see pairings that you know will never happen.

(Oh well, what we lack in numbers we make up with our arguments.) And I avoid Cloti as well, Erissa! *hi-fives* The one exception was Schism, by mengde, because it was so damn cool. I just skipped over the Cloti parts. =]

I must say that I really don't like any pairings at all, even if they're canon. At least not pairings where both of them are alive. Thats why I like VincentLucrecia (strangely enough, I don't like CloudAerith, though). But I do actually like CidShera, because it's not so much lovey-dovey crappy romance with them (in the stories I've read). And, as you've probably heard a million times before, I'm not fond of romance, or yaoi. Not fond at all. Not fond, as in I-avoid-them-like-the-plague.
