The title says it all. This is where I will brainstorm about the new site, and solicit feedback from yous guys. XD When you have an idea you wish to pose, this is also the place to put it. Questions about the site can also go here.
Here's what I have, kyped directly from the discussion I had with the judges and mods a few months back:
----------------
So, while discussing this whole thing, I started taking hardcopy notes (dunno if you guys think better with notes, but I do). I have a sheet of paper titled "Genesis Awards Site." It's divided into four sections: General Ideas, Content, Artwork and Judges Section. Here are the notes:
----------------
General Ideas:
Artwork:
Content:
Content would be individual sections and pages.
I was also just talking to Pied again, after I'd posted this, and she brought up the lack of a Contact page. Whoops! She also sort of thought of the idea of merging the Improve Your Writing section with a whole section of stuff that might attract people to the site - fan-submitted essays on writing and fandom, graphics, videos, really anything that showcases fan creativity - as she put it. I like this idea a lot. Pied ALSO just mentioned the idea of possibly including some of the judges comments on the winning fics. That is a really super-good idea, I think.

- I can host the site.
- Host winning fics, with authors permission?
- Set up a Paypal for donations to buy genesisawards.net for a few years.
- Godaddy.com accepts paypal and they are my preferred domain registrar.
- Content management is a plus, preferably with a backup utility.
- Transport the board to our servers so we don't have ads.
Artwork:
- Stay away from artwork involving the Genesis character, as that's not who the Genesis Awards was named for (does anyone know what the GA was named after, anyway?)
- Talk to my friend Hannah about possibly designing a site for us. I can, and if I have to I will, design a site, but if Hannah does it, we'll have an amazing site. She's THE best graphic artist and web designer I've ever met - she does this for a living.
- See if Hannah would be opposed to designing a logo for us? A logo would make things more cohesive, IMO, and we could plop it on any awards banners we make.
- I would prefer that we stay to the core Final Fantasy VII cast, and not the retconned characters.
- Another idea I had is that each category could have a character to represent it on the header banners? I dunno if that would work out. We'd have to see.
Content:
Content would be individual sections and pages.
- News and Updates (maybe a blog sort of deal)
- About the Genesis Awards
- The History of the Genesis Awards (this could be merged into the above page)
- Nomination Rules
- Award Categories
- Staff
- Previous Award Winners (with links to the fics, preferably hosted by us so they're in a similar format)
- Forum Rules
- Nominations Page (this would cut back on board spam - if people don't want to register with the forums, instead of making the forums open like they are now, we can just have people submit fics on the site)
- Improve Your Writing - I figure that since we're an awards site we should have a tips and tricks section on writing. Our staff, if they feel so inclined, could occasionally submit tips or essays on the subject of writing. I'd also like to get links together on writing tutorials for this section. If need be, I could run this section - although Pied and NRGburst are two people I would also trust to help. There are several others but they pop out in my mind.
- Links
- Credits
- Contact Us

Judges Section:
- I want to set up a password-protected Judges Section to the site for the next season. When I get the site up I would set up individual usernames and passwords for the judges, based on the content management system I find that will be most useful to our goals. This would not necessarily replace the Judging Staff Board, but would work in tandem with them.
- One BIG idea I had about this, that I would probably have to personally oversee, is that when nominations close I would like to get the nominated fics together by category and zip them in an archive, and let the judges download categories directly to their computers, palm pilots, laptops, or whatnot, so that they can judge even if they can't get online but a few times a week. This will help people who may have sketchy internet availability, or parents who restrict their net access, or even people like me who are out and about a lot.
- We could also set up a part of the judging section where each story has a page and the judges can log in and vote, and also put their comments on the story, without having to use e-mail. Obviously I'd have to make sure this was super-secure. Only those who are judges would receive a link to the judging section.
