Ooh, Rain I LOVE your sig...*drools over Cloud's gorgeous pic* Zack's got this one won for me. For sheer brightness of character. He doesn't whine or mope or angst, just cheerfully gives everything he can for others. He's loyal, caring and polite. Determined and hard working. Seriously, does he have ANY bad qualities? I cry everytime I see that death scene- "Eiyuu ni natta kanaa?" (I've become a hero, right?). The end of FFX comes close, but seeing Tidus swimming after the credits just turned off the waterworks. "Oh. Sequel. Huh."

Determined and hard working. Have you ever played FFIX? Because Zidane essentially has all those characteristics. One of the great things that I like about his character is that he believes in helping people simply for the sake of helping them.

Yeah, I had thought of that. But then I remembered that part of the game where he realizes the reason he has a tail and goes hopelessly moping around. I suppose it makes him more human than Zack. But it doesn't make me admire him more.

True. It doesn't last long though. I think if I'd just found out I'd actually been created as an angel of death, I'd have a moment of despair too. XD The good thing is that his friends help him get over it. He manages to go beyond the purpose he was made for and create his own meaning in life. I think that is admirable.

I agree. But IMO, his character still isn't as admirable as Zack's. Zidane spends so much of the game baiting Captain Steiner. (That was his name, right? The guy in the noisy armour.) Picking on the awkward, blustering member of your party- funny, yes. But something to look up to? I don't think so. Zack, on the other hand, is never anything but nice to underdogs like Cloud.

I said Tidus, just because he's wat I think a hero should be really. He's far from perfect, since he can be immature and selfish at times, but even though he was taken to Spira against his will, he immediately throws himself into protecting Yuna. And even after he discovers that his father is Sin, he still keeps going, for Yuna's sake and for everyone else's. He's also devoted to saving Yuna from death by using the final summoning. That seems pretty heroic, even though it's for a more personal cause.

Yep, Captain Adelbert Steiner, I believe, is is full name. Anyway, but... that's part of Zidane's personality - to tease others sometimes. He isn't malicious about it, though, and so I don't think that makes him less of a person. It makes him more human. Even if he isn't actually human, it still makes him more... real, in my mind. But I have to say my vote still goes to Cecil, 'cause he's the most traditionally heroic of 'em all. And for the record, he never makes fun of any underdogs, either. xD

Yeah, Zidane is a cheeky little bugger but it's all in good fun. He and Steiner come from completely different worlds so there's bound to be friction. Eventually they teach each other how to be better people. Steiner becomes less hung up on class and learns to trust that Zidane has Garnet's best interests at heart. Zidane comes to admire Steiner's dedication and at the end of the game likewise entrusts Garnet to his care, much to Steiner's distress.
And I adore their little exchange when invading Memoria: Steiner: "Red Rose!? Could it be...Beatrix!?" Zidane: "Quite a woman you fell in love with!" Steiner: "You're one to talk!"
Zidane's perpetual teasing eventually rubs off...! XD

My vote goes to Zack- he's everything a hero should be. Caring, fun-loving, strong, ethical, friendly, cheerful, faithful, respectable, I could go on forever. I feel that he's a hero in ways that Cloud isn't. Neh, I'm not making sense, am I? Nevermind, I just love Zack to death xD I'm not very proficient at properly expressing my opinions. Oh well. Honorable mention to Zidane. Probably because IX is my favorite FF that I love him so much The thing is, Terra was more crucial to the plot, but Locke was more of the main guy that you associated with FFVI. So I guess you could say that Terra was the main character of the story, and Locke the main character of the game. Kind of like how Ashe is the main character of the story in FFXII, and Vaan the main character of the game.

Well, I'm going to vote for Squall. Simply because no one else did so.
Squall is a bit wierd for a hero. He doesn't follow the normal stereotypes, as he's mean, unemotional, and says very little. He's not the best of motivators either, but, in my opinion, that makes him more real. Some people have voted for Cloud because he made the most drastic change. From a nobody to a somebody. And that is true, and I totally agree with it. But that is because of sheer fighting prowress more than anything else. Squall, however, has a personality change. Not a drastic one, but it still happens. And even though he hates being in the spotlight, he takes over as Commander. Unlike some of the other heroes, who fade after the enemy is defeated, Squall actually does more after the fighting is done. He is a true leader, who doesn't stop once the battle is defeated.
Also, Squall is more emotionally attached to the enemy (well, Seifer at least). Sure, Cloud admired Sephiroth as a kid, but Squall knew Seifer his entire life. Granted, he wasn't aware of the fact, but its harder to fight an enemy that you know than one you don't. But he did it.
I'm not sure if that makes any sense, but it made sense in my head. All the charecters, of course, grow. But to me it seems like Squall does the most growing (and that is without any science experiments! Its purely him!). But, of course, it is just a matter of opinion. And, since no one else has voted for Squall, I guess I'm alone. But, hey, I've never followed the crowd!
Summarized, Squall isn't the most conventional of heroes. And that's why I love him!

I'm all for Zidane. He's got a tail and I just find that rather cute. It's a pathetic reason why, but Zidane is all flirty and he has a TAIL! I like tails!

Ha! That is a good reason! The tail was pretty cute. It would of been even better if he had cat ears! ;D

Zidane simply because after FF7 and FF8 (love you boys) he was a breath of bright, jovial, flirty fresh air. Talk about the bounciest Angel of Death of all time. Eat that, Cloud.

I'm going to be cross-playing Zidane at the next London MCM convention! XD Though it involves me getting off I disagree and actually starting to work out how the hell I'm going to do it (furtailfurtailfurtail). Though since playing VII properly I've changed my vote and reckon Cloud really /is/ the best Hero because of all the crap he goes through and still manages to come out relatively sane. In fact, he starts off insane/screwed up, and not only does he save the world but he *cheesy alert* 'finds himself as well' EDIT: Zidane is my 'favorite' Final fantasy Hero, but I think Cloud is the 'best'. Squall can just be my boyfriend
