Ultimately, we want to give everyone the opportunity of considering a post as a Judge. However, we do have some requirements in order to make the Judging team and their judgements as fair as possible.
1. You need to have a good grasp of grammar, vocabulary and spelling. When judging, the grammatical correctness of a fic is something you look out for, so it's essential for you to have this knowledge.
2. You will need to have a basic understanding of Final Fantasy VII and if possible, the compilations (Dirge of Cerberus etc), whether that's having played the game or read up on it. Nominated fics need to be in character, so again, having this knowledge is without question.
3. Have good skills in critique. This means being able to identify the strong points as well as the weak of a fic, and assessing them against others in that category.
4. This point can be linked with the one above. Judge applicants can choose to receive a test fic to judge so that we can have a look at your critiquing skills, or you can supply us with a link that demonstrates these skills. This could be in the form of a constructive review, for example.
5. Please be polite and respectful of others' opinions when applying and/or judging. It goes a long way, and being a Judge does rely heavily on working as part of a team.
6. Ideally, we do not want potential judges with a flaming history. If we catch a judge or judge applicant flaming, we may have to take measures to resolve the matter, such as warning or removing them from this post. This all depends on the seriousness of the flame, the date of the flame and the circumstances behind the matter. These flaming issues will be dealt by the staff members as fairly as possible.
7. You must be committed as a Judge (on the forum and with judging), especially during the period when judging begins. We will need to rely on you to judge certain categories, so if you will be absent for a while, for example, let us know.
These are the basic necessities, but they are subject to be changed, so please read up on them when they're updated.
