I can't even write about live action television shows. I dabbled in Stargate:SG 1 for a while, but everything I wrote was utter crap.
leafonthebreeze: In addition to Yu-Gi-Oh: Abridged, I recommend series zero on youtube. It is based on the manga, and duel monsters isn't the main thing. The main thing is Yami beating the living daylights out of jerks and criminals. It's ACTUAL "king of games" instead of "king of children's card games". Or you could avoid the series altogether. Whatever dials your gate (woo! Stargate reference!)
Lady V: Michael Vick vs. Red XIII ftw.
Oh, and people do still write fanfiction about bands. Mostly about MCR. Sick and wrong.
I found ffn by accident. Fortunately, the first thing I chose to read was well written. Little did I know what horrors were to be found...

Lady V, don't you have your stories saved on MS Word back in the old days? I mean don't we usually upload an MS Word Doc when we post on FFnet? Or was it not like that back then?

My parents once switched computers very frequently- and there was no warning- three different times I came home from work and school and found that my parents had purchased another computer and the other one was already disposed of. The stories that I had posted were all archived on FF.Net because those were my only remianing copies of them. Then more recently, we also had two computers get struck by lightning simultaneously- (it also got our Dish Network reciever and a television in that room!)
Many moons ago, when the earth was flat and we used to have to lug stone tablets and chisels to school, up hill both ways... Fanfiction.Net was once a place where you had to search through the lists of each author's postings to be able to find successive chapters of any given story. ^_^

Ah Fanfiction.net. What a Pandora's Box it can be. I've read stories there that I can barely put into words how AWESOME they are, and at the same times I've read stuff so bad it makes me question my own sanity as I upload something new.
Oh my Valtaya, I remember those days. I remember one of the first stories I read and I didn't understand that if you clicked the author's name, it took you to a list of all their work. So I plowed through pages and pages and PAGES of stories to find the other chapters.

How I got into fanfiction. I had always made up stories and such, but I could never get them written down. Then I watched, are you ready for this?, Batman Beyond: The Joker's Return. I loved it. I read stuff about it online, and ended up finding fanfiction. From that site, I found fanfiction.net, and now I'm obsessed. Especially, if I can find something worth reading.
I'm mostly reading FFVII and KH, with a sprinkling of HP and LOTR.

I hate to admit this, but you guys sound like you might get a bit of a laugh out of it, but when I first joined FF.net I posted one or two stories in script format. Looking back at those make me, well, cringe seems like an understatement. I think I may even still have them up, too.
Yeah, I'm guilty of never deleting anything. I used to delete a lot, but now I like to look back and see how far I have come. It's also good for a laugh every now and then.

There is no shame in script format, I think. I mean, screenplays are written in script format, and it can be an effective medium of story-telling.
Of course... most fanfictions in script format aren't like that, but my opinion stands regardless. Heh.
I agree with you, though, that it's good to save your old things to see how you've improved; also, sometimes old writings can inspire you by reminding you of old ideas that, at the time, you may not have been good enough to do justice to, but which now you can.

I've read some awesome script-based fanfics.... well, back when FFN allowed them. Back when I was a big Star Wars fan, one writer had some fantastic stories written in that format. I'm very guilty for deleting stuff. My ego gets the better of me sometimes I have left the majority of my old stuff up (stuff circa 2001-2003) but some of it HAD to go. *eyes Digimon fic lurking in FFN profile* I do occassionally use that to compare old to new when I'm feeling really down. It definitely makes me smile XD

FICWAD FTW I've said this before but... no rules. At all. Ever. Just upload any kind of crap, about anything. Mikey way screwing his brother in a haunted mansion? Go for it! I love it there. It's all divided up into genre so you can't accidently stumble across something like the aforementioned. They just changed servers or something though so the search isn't there anymore (Had the best searching system ever) I started there and I'm staying there. It's a truly epic place.

The story and characters of Final Fantasy VII drew me in so completely that once I finished the game I went fishing for more FF stuff. Eventually I stumbled upon fanfiction. I've always loved literature but I was content to remain a reader/lurker for a number of years before FFIX was released and hey presto, the plot bunnies took up residence in my mind.
Four years on and that damn FFIX multichapter monster still hasn't been slain. >.<

It was actually CaT on the devils-lair forums that got me into fanfiction. I was reading through the fanfic threads on her site and she did a post where she said that guys didn't seem to do as much DMC fanfic as girls did. I don't know, I guess I saw that as a personal challenge or something, so I wen't and started to write End of the Line. Now I have nearly 200,000 words worth of fanfiction done, most of it for DMC.
I once did a Harry Potter fic as well. It totally flopped because 99% of HP fans want stories with shipping in them, and I wrote an Action/Adventure story. D'oh.

I hear Draco/Hermione is the most popular.

Apparently, "Hermione gets raped and/or beaten and Draco is there to make it all better" is a big favourite.
