Totally random... I read a funny post (In Why do you think she named him Cloud?) by piratesrox that got me thinking about that... You know how you can change the names of your controllable characters? I wanna know what you called them, and why. Pretty lame and random topic, but I was just curious.
Anyway, I'll start. I actually didn't even GET Yuffie, cuz I could never figure out how to get her. Even then, I only got to the part where you get off at Costa Del Sol. Pretty lame... Plus, I was playing two different games (I was playing on two different computers...) , so all the characters were different. The first time I named them, my characters names were Dufflebah, (insert profane name for Tifa >_<), BarretDOO, Your Mom, Bingo... I dunno if I forgot anyone. On the second game, I named them Zack, (forgot Tifa, was probably profane...), BarretDOOG (according to my horrible memory), (forgot Aerith, too T_T), and Nanaki.
I named Cloud Dufflebah the first time because me and my brothers were arguing about what to call him. Then somehow it got to calling him "Dufflebag," so I typed that, but hit "h" instead of "g", and it stuck. Don't think I need to elaborate on why I called him Zack, heh. Tifa Is pretty self-explanatory, too. It did start with a T though. I named Barret BarretDOO the first time, cuz his name reminded me of Barret Doo, an old classmate. I named him BarretDOOG cuz I wanted it to be different the second time. Aerith was called Your Mom, cuz my brother kept saying she was Mother after seeing Advent Children >_> And Red was Bingo cuz I felt like it at the time. Then I gave him his real name the second time.
Well, I hope this topic isn't *too* boring... I hope you guys have better reasons than I do T_T Have fun.

I generally just stick with the canon names. The one exception was this time I named Cloud "Dildo."
The humor wore off after about ten minutes. Then I started a new game.

Heh, yeah... that happened with me too. The only one that made me giggle after the first time seeing it in conversation (meaning more than once) was Your Mom. Like when it said "I'm Your Mom" or "We have to save Your Mom!" I don't remember anything else off the top of my head... Dildo made me laugh.

I kept the canon names, but that's probably just beacuse I'm still on my first run-through, but I heard someone called aerith "Owned" so when Sephrioth stabbed her, Cloud shouted "Owned!" ;D

I was unoriginal and kept my characters named what they were supposed to be named. Except that I switched Aeris to Aerith. Which made it look weird whenever anyone was referring to her like: "Aeris' mom" because then it would say "Aerith' mom" instead of "Aerith's mom." I'm boring, what can I say? Kaar, Yuffie's a pain to get. Well, at least a pain to FIND. I walked around in the forests outside of Junon for twenty minutes before she finally showed up to fight me. I think that was the earliest I could get her in the game, and I was about to give up and just get her later, but she finally showed up. (Though in retrospect, Vincent was more annoying to get. Just because getting to the right numbers on that stupid combination lock without accidentally clicking on the wrong number was a pain.)

I done that with Aeris aswell, now that I think of it! Aeris just bugged me, so i had to change it to Aerith.

Heh, naming everyone Sephiroth, funny. So was "Owned". That made me giggle for a bit. And no matter that you don't change the names except for one, it's still sort of original. I would've changed Aeris to Aerith, too. I just like it better for some reason... And the game programming loses at grammar, apparently, heh.
Whoo, it looks like I'm not the only one hat had trouble trying to find her. I feel less like a noob, now. As for Vincent, I never got there T_T Didn't get that far. Thanks for the info, and your contribution to the thread =D

I think for the most part I kept the canon names, too. My sister shares my Aeris hatred, though, so the last time she played through I think she named her HoBag or something.
Gonna have to try that Owned thing, though. That's hilarious!

Wow, HoBag??? Well, if you hate her that much, heh. Probably would have been something I named Tifa. Although the only thing I used Aerith for was healing, most of the time...

This has nothing to do with FFVII, but in FFIX, when you first get Amarant, he has a line of dialogue right after you name him where he says, "Some people call me the Flaming Amarant."
I switched it to "Douche."

I named Red XIII "Kitty" before. Only because he's so cute. The Aeris/Aerith hatred continues because one time we named her "Easy" and one of my friends named her "Ass". I'd name Tifa "Jenna Jameson" but I don't think it would fit.

I too was unoriginal and kept all the original names, except for switching Aeris to Aerith. When I played FF Tactics, though, I would always change the names - I'd actually dismiss all the people I start with just so I could have a full party of custom names, lol. Usually I'd name them after whatever my current obsession was (ie, Redwall xD).

I remember my friend renamed Tidus in FFX to 'Anna' (her name), which caused her confusion when she forgot his name and someone talked to her about him.
As for me, I don't tend to rename characters, other then changing Aeris to Aerith and chopping the XIII off of Red's name.
