Sweet. Okay. My collection of Final Fantasy music is FINALLY GOING TO GET SOME DECENT USE! I own the soundtracks for Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, and Crisis Core. Jussayin'. You know, if no one else has those and if we want to use them. I've also got "Liberi Fatali" and a couple of the piano pieces from X. But you know. Jussayin'.

I've got the soundtracks to most of the Final Fantasies released thus far because I'm a neeeeeeerd. Haha.
So I think that tonight I'm going to download the Mac version of Audacity and putz with it. I've used Garage Band and frankly, I'm not impressed with it for audio editing. I'll also test out some different mics I have laying around, like I said I would in the fic dubbing thread, and post the results. Cally and I are going to work out some stuff and we may have a test-podcast available next week to see how we could work things out.
Edit: Do I have any volunteers to help me try recording with Skype for the test podcast? Skype requires a microphone and a free Skype account.
Edit again: Aw, no one? I got one person willing to help me test...one. And they couldn't do it tonight. C'mon, guyyyys....

Bump. In the IRC we were discussing the intro track for the podcast, which would be pre-recorded and tacked on to the beginning of every podcast. I was thinking we could use Electric de Chocobo with some talking from the hosts and stuff. What's everyone think? Also, the reason this has been put off is because of this horrendous cold I have. I sound like ass. Anyway. When I get moved into the new apartment on the 15th, I'll start bugging people more about the podcast. Edit: We think we have a name! What does everyone think of the Shinra News Network? I am almost positive that's what the broadcast station in FF7 was called, and it's not taken. Not only that, but our podcast seems to be the only one that would focus on FF7 fanfiction exclusively. Niche!

I like the idea, Tasha. And I'd be willing to help with whatever testing you need. /bored.
I'm sort of excited about this.

I'm *really* excited about this and just sort of bummed that I can't do anything about it right yet.
Edit: I want to open discussion on what someone would like to hear out of a GA podcast.
Some ideas I had:
A news segment - news about Final Fantasy as a whole, or about stuff going on in the fandom. Rants A fic of the week, or a recommended fic, segment Theory discussion Reader mail (if we get reader mail) Maybe a discussion on grammar. Or maybe an often-misspelled word.
Anyone got any more ideas?
Edit again: I just had an idea. I was thinking of maybe a sometime segment with a name sort of like "Advice from a Beta Reader," where someone who betas a lot of fics (Pen, myself, Cally, anyone who's a good beta, really) can point out some common writer mistakes so that you can avoid them in the first place. What do you think?

snn.genesisawards.netSite is set up, we're working out the details. Hopefully the site won't be a liar and we'll have our first episode sometime mid-April.

This is great! OMG SHINRA NEWS NETWORK. It. Will. Be. Epic.
I like what you've got so far. I'll think on it, and I might have something to add, but what you've listed covers the basics. w00t, podcast!

I would like to be a part of this, as I believe Pen communicated to you.
BUT!
What she didn't communicate was that I want my own segment, Ollie Williams style. Example:
Tasha: And now we go to Mengde for the yaoi report! Mengde?
Me: THOSE GUYS ARE DOING IT!
Tasha: Thanks, Mengde! And now, crackfics!

Ollie Williams XD I c whut u did thar. Podcasting sounds A-W-E-S-O-M-E. What about segments where we do 'interviews'? i.e. get the writers of award-winning or popular fics and do a little Q&A session about their fics, I know there's always loads of random things about things I've written, like when I wrote whatever scene or how such-and-such totally wasn't supposed to work out like that. Dramatic readings could also be fun, but what about BADFIC readings? I mean, we could engineer it so they don't name/shame, but 'comedy corner' could feature really srs readings of really awful fic. Like the whole 'Legolas by Laura' stuff. We should totally ask Guardian1 for an interview Just for a name.

Both of those ideas are ones that Sai and I were sort of tossing around. I'd love to interview some BNF's, but Mengde's already working on it.

I love the idea of bad-fic reading! That'd be hilarious.
Hmm. It's mainly about fanfic, but it'd be cool to have a small segment about SE in general - like, rumors about the new VII or info about XIII. It'd also be cool if every once in a while we could have fic readings that are from other FFs, or better yet, those KH fics that are heavily incorporated with VII.
Pairing debates... hmm. I'm afraid of war.
Also, if someone mentions author declaration or canon debates, I politely ask that they be shot. Repeatedly.

Sound advice, La. :D
Tasha, I fully support Mengde's Ollie segment. Unless that was a joke. In which case, I vote that we force him to do it, because it is BRILLIANT.
As for podcasts ideas... well, my brain's a bit slow at the moment, so I'll just offer this. :p

We're planning on making it a general Final Fanatasy fanfiction podcast, with an emphasis on FF7. We'll probably do general video game news, as well, just because I know a lot of people like to hear about stuff OTHER than SE. I'm also wondering how often you guys think we should do new casts. I was thinking approximate biweekly, which would give us time to come up with topics to discuss, for news to accrue, and allow us to work around various cohost schedules, as well as time for me to do the audio editing (which I'm doing mostly to learn how to use the program Audacity, but also because it'll look GREAT on my stage tech resume). What say you?
