Shortlist - that's what I meant 0_o
That's a really neat idea, though that would mean that we wouldn't be able to make the banners until the winners are decided. However, we could always prolong the announcement of the winners so that there is time to finalise the banners.

However, we could always prolong the announcement of the winners so that there is time to finalise the banners. Actually, it shouldn't take too much extra time, if any. Before winners are decided, I'd ideally have templates already created for each award. Pied, I'm with you--having similar designs for all awards, but something such as different symbols on each to represent different categories. All in all, placing them side-by-side you could tell they came from Genesis, but they'd each be unique. Anyway, it wouldn't be too difficult to have a couple pictures of popular characters formatted and ready to go in the case that such pictures would be needed for an award. Now that I think on it, it'd be nice to have, say, 2 -different- pictures of Cloud if two different authors won awards that should feature him. It's all about individuality. I'm fairly certain winners would appreciate a unique award rather than a copy that we just slap their name on. -Reads that again.- "We," ah, don't think I'm assuming myself in any sort of authoritative position. ^^; I'm just trying to express ideas, so if at any point it seems like I'm on a power trip or anything, smack me down, please.

SephiChan I agree with all those things you said. Individual winning banners is a good idea. I think the winners of different categories should have different banners. So for example, for action/adventure we could feature Cloud looking deadly with his sword and for parody we could have Cloud wearing Tifa's clothes (or something like that, sorry, brain not working now). Then we could have the winner's name and Genesis Awards slapped on it. I also like that idea of having banners designed according to the story/characters of the winning fic. I think it's all good ideas. Don't worry, like you said, we are all just expressing ideas here, so there's no need to worry about authoritative figures. They are all harmless anyway. ;D

On the subject of winners' banners... is anyone here willing to make them? We are still in desperate need of a site artist. Volunteers are much loved. XD

My sister is a good graphics artist. Shes won several awards on mugglenet. I could ask her for you, but I make no promises.

Okay, so while having a conversation with Mari, I came up with an idea to get the Genesis Awards a little more recognized. What I was thinking of is promotional videos with cutscenes from AC, LO, CC, etc. that have the site's name, what we do, and then we can put it up on youtube and other video sites. As our name holds 'Genesis', anyone who writes 'genesis' in the search engine this site's PV would come up, thus getting more people to notice. It's been done with short movies, comedians and other things, so it could work.

I've already told you what I think: I like the idea! It could work. We'll just have to add the link on our profiles and that alone should get the video a respectable amount of views. Now, the only question is who will make it. I don't think I'm talented enough to do it, but I bet we have members who can do a great job. Nudgenudge at these members.

Ooooh, great idea, which I fully support, but I am majorly sucky at things like that, so I wouldn't even know where to start on helping.
Sorry. =(

I can do it. I love making videos. Anyone have any ideas? I have clips from AC and DOC on my computer already.

You should get a few of Genesis, too, if possible. After all, it's named after him, right? What would th GA be without Genesis? I really love you, Costa. ^_^

Sounds like it could be a good idea. After all, it's named after him, right? Ironically, it isn't - the forum's name was coined before Genesis was even a twinkle in Square Enix's eye. XD A request to everyone, now that the awards are about to begin again - please spread the word about GA! Tell your friends, put a link in your ff.net profile, any other relevant forum you're a member of, mention it in your LJ etc. It all helps.

Hahah, I've had the link in my FFnet profile since last year. Although, as most of my writing's for the DMC fandom, I'm not sure if it's at all useful. Perhaps it'd be better for writers more active in the FF fandoms and/or popular authors to advertise; they certainly get more profile hits.
... Mengde, Pen, Costa, etc, this means you. =P
Anyway, I think promotional videos is a good idea, although you have to bear in mind that a lot of people searching for FF AMVs just want that, and might not take too kindly to advertising of websites of any kind. Speaking of, how exactly would the advertising be carried out? A note at the beginning/end of the AMV, or would the AMV be one big advertisement?

I can make AMV's and link to the Genesis Awards at the end, like I used to with my personal site. But I think that the idea was to make actual commercials for the Genesis Awards. I can do both. Also, I know that both Pen and I have already linked to the GAF in our profiles.

I'm not too shabby with graphics. I could be, like, a banner understudy! :D Well, maybe not, but I could do some banner advertisements and banner-awards if needed.
I'm not sure if anyone already does this, but an idea could be to just advertise on the author's note of stories. :]

So, I went through all my reviews on all my FFVII fics and compiled a list of people who regularly read or write (or possibly both) FFVII fics. I came up with 75 people, and as soon as the system is no longer borked, I will PM all of them and invite them to join these here forums.
Wish me luck!
