I can do you one better, Sai. I have ideas for two vampire stories.
*shoots self*
Though the other idea, which I won't pollute the thread with, was thought up when I was about thirteen, and was a fantasy story through and through, complete with fictional Otherworld. It barely counts as a story, really.
And I'd be reluctant to write anything to do with vampires were it not for the fact that: a) it's probably never going to see the light of day, and if it does it'll probably be at least a decade from now; and b) if the Twilight craze means that teens gobble up anything and everything to do with vampires, at least I'd show them what a proper vampire is like. =P

Holy moley, does everyone write at least ONE vampire-based story (or at least have an idea of a vampire-based story in their brains? I can honestly say I have never at any time been tempted to write a story involving any kind of vampire. Although I did have an idea once for a story about the Devil, and one about an undead lab created monster man (Hello, abandoned NaNo novel, I've missed you, too.) But no vampires.

Scottish Faeries over this way. Only because I have an unhealthy obsession with male faeries who can disguise themselves as seals. He will seduce you, YES HE WILL.
Vampires don't interest me, as I think Bram Stoker is rolling around angry in his grave enough as it is.

Really? Male faeries, mystic? And they can disguise themselves as seals?
'Ello, Ned. You are gay and paralytic. :D
Sai brings up a good point though--with all this Twilight craze, it's fairly likely that any other vampire novel written in the near future will be inevitably compared to it. I know because I did it subconsciously without thinking just this weekend on a trip to the bookstore. O.o

Ah, Koky. You just put a horrible kink in my future erotica novel. Well, since the cat is out of the bag, I do want to write a novel (erotica, oh yes ...) that centers around the Selkies. Selkies are water faeries according to Scottish folklore and often disguise themselves as seals, though they often took a human form. The men were known to seduce human women and father half-Selkie children. Other than that, they were quite harmless. I'm tinkering with my characters at the moment. I want my hero to be part of the Seelie Court (basically, the good faeries), but unsure if my heroine should be your typical bonny lass peasant girl or part of the Scottish royal family. If I go the royal family deal, I could make a nice little love triangle. She's already the lover of the Selkie Male, but has now caught the attention of a neighboring Duke or Lord or something. Yeah.

Oh, Koky. I love you, so much. Mystic, that sounds downright torrid. Which I'm pretty sure is the point of that kind of novel. So, props!

I'm sorry, mystic, but it simply had to be done. :p
Personally, I'd go the royal family route, simply because it seems like it would provide many more opportunities for drama and twisted romance. But that's just me.
And Vulcan, the feeling's mutual. :3
@pen: Y'know...that sounds suspiciously like a certain Vincent Valentine... :p

Ooh, Selkies! That's really cool, mystic; it's not something you see a lot of in books. Actually, I think I only ever read one book based on the folklore of Selkies, and that was ages ago. Though it was really about the daughter of a Selkie, I believe. Or the granddaughter? /end rambling I've never had the idea or inclination to write vampires. (Either of the non-sparkly or sparkly variety, thank you very much.) The series my co-author and I have been tediously writing, rewriting, and editing for the past five years is young adult fantasy. Just because we both love fantasy and wanted to write something more geared that way. I expect we'll be writing it for some time to come; the series has twelve books in it and we've only written the first three. Now we just have to see if our publishers want to keep going after they publish the first two books. Anyway, yeah, that's plenty to keep me going on original stuff right now. When I'm not working on this series, I write fanfic to keep myself sane.

Koky, I really am leaning towards royalty now. It opens the door nice and wide for angsty love affairs and drama and all the that type of fun. Just don't tell my mom that her sweet little girl is going to write erotica. However, painful and torrid it may be. It's all part of the plot. *nods* Wow, Qwi! Twelve books? I commend you on your drive. Sounds epic.

Other than my failed NaNo experiments, I've got... one cohesive idea. A sword-fighter suffering from a fatal illness searches the world for a cure with his adopted sister. Later, some pissy guy follows them around because said sister broke both his arms and took his sword. It's going to poke lots and lots of fun at medieval fantasy, especially RPGs like Fire Emblem and the earlier Final Fantasy games.
It's just occurred to me that I've spent WAYYYYYYY too much time on TVTropes.

So... Lynn just got an email from Chris Baty. Oh yes, it's that time again. SCRIPT FRENZIE.
So, I was going to completely ignore this: I had no intention of writing a movie script, play script, commercial script (although that one might be fun... but won't meet the 100 page requirement). However, as I was briefly skimming over what Mr. Baty had to say, I stumbled over the words Graphic Novel.
I, you see, have been trying to come up with a good excuse to finish the original Graphic Novel I had started last spring. Needless to say, I'm thrilled with the opportunity to finally sit down and work out the whole plot and script and have it all ready to go for the next chunck of time I'll have in which the panels and drawings would be mapped out.
But I've hit a snag. Script Frenzy happens in April. Exams happen in April.
Lynn's a sad panda.

first off i'd like to say your guys posts are hilarious, i think i have more fun simply jumping around the forum reading posts then i do making my own. However, i do enjoy a good romp through the imagination (but no where near the vampire neck-of-the woods), lawl, i just realized the pun of putting neck in that, lawl.
anyway i sometimes delve into the world of original fictions, and so far i've had a few minor successes -- writting battles between personal characters and friend's characters, short stories based on commissioned concepts, etc-- but never really something i've just sat there and chunked out, so... here we go! DISCLAIMER: i apologized to any and all who read my post throughout the forum for my grammar has been known to cause brain hemorrhaging.
Since before the birth of the universe thirteen gods have been trying to win the favor of The Lord and Lady of Creation. But when it came time for the Grand court to be assembled and ritual for the creation of the universe to begin, there was anarchy. Erebus, God of Darkness attempted to destroy the Grand court by corrupting the demi-gods under of both the God of Myst and Decay. Together Erebus and his corrupted hoped to overthrow The Lord and Lady of Creation and dismantle the Grand Court.
Their plan was foiled as the Lord of Creation found out of about Erebus villainous plot and banished him and all of his followers to The Realm of the Everdying . Ashamed of enraged at this treachery The Lord and Lady closed the gates to The Kingdom, and denied the other gods any say in the creation of the universe.
And so it was that when the first second past, and the universe born each god was given thirteen planets to oversee. Eredus and his treacherous followers, banished to The realm of the Everdying had no place in this new realm, but they brooded over their punishment, concocting a way to get back at those who had betrayed their plan.
As the energy of the universe settle and the planets formed excesses energy pooled on each planets surface, creating life. With three of the thirteen gods banished the Lord and Lady of creation gathered this new life and planted them within the vacant solar systems. This was to be an experiment to see if godless life could exist and still function. As the first two millennium past little progress was made in the developement of the three races, but as the third millenium past on each of the races seemed to evolve at an exponential rate.
And so came to be the races of Human, Torrasque and Etheria....
This is essentially the prologue, from hear each chapter circulates around three characters from the three races as they attempt to gain power by gather the favors of the gods in the solar systems that surround them. Why do the gods care? because these races are the key to opening the gates to The Kingdom and attaining a seat in the Grand Court. The power of each of the gods is obtain in the tangible form of Avro (think materia), but within each peice is a fragment of the gods soul. So as a neat little twist each fragment has influence over the holder, the stronger the peice, the stronger the hold, but the gods cannot give the positions of any other fragments, or fully merge with over the holder.
The story gets much more complicated as the heirarchy of the omnipotent beings is laid out (gods, demis, spectyrs, spirits, spryts and underlings), the four highest ranks are all manafested into Avro, and the last two exist as a species of tricksters and spys collaborating for the betterment of their masters.
so... yeah.... there it is....
thoughts?

... this is totally different from the prologue I read the other Sarge... what happened to the first one? I think I liked that one better... however, I love your concept (you're always so good with those), and I think if you practice some more and take your time with writing, it'll turn out really well. I'm excited

ooooh no thats not what i had you read, i had you read the first bit of the first chapter. this *points to previous post* is the prologue.
but heck, why not, really sorry if you dont care then this is just wasted forum space.
here is the first part of the first chapter:
When the Lord and Lady of Creation opened their gates and allowed the gods and their masteries to sculpt their own realms, they organized their followers in order of the favored to the outcasts in vicinity to the Kingdom. This caused some tension among the gods, each competing to win a spot closer to Alpha and Omega, for they were the Gatekeepers and they alone decided which gods sat in the Grand Court with the Lord and Lady of Creation. In the only five of the thirteen were chosen to sit in the Grand Court. The enraged gods launch war upon one another, hoping to cripple their opponents to the point of losing their positions in the Grand Court. Finally the Lord and Lady of creation had had enough and closed the gates to the Inner Kingdom.
The effect was counterproductive, and the already enraged gods became stagnant, unable to earn the rewards for which they had sacrificed so much to obtain. While in this torpid state, a faction of rebel gods began to form; members of the multi-verse plotting against their creators in order to obtain what they most desired, power...
Excerpt from the Omnitome of All Creation: The Age of Conflict.
Darien paced back and forth eagerly, looking out from the Observation Deck at the small smoldering planet with hunger in his heart. Could this be the one? His hand instinctively crawled up his chest and wrapped around the crystal pendent that hung around his neck. The Cassius hung in a high orbit around the small burning rock of Magmus Mikromorei, the smallest of the remaining planets in the Fotia sector. “Apparently it hasn’t always been the runt of the litter.” Darien jumped at the sound of the calm voice at his back. It was so like Eadain to sneak up on him. There was an awkward pause as Darien looked over his shoulder and found Eadain staring at him blankly, as if trying to interject some humor into the situation. Finally, he chuckled. “Here. The S.I.R.E.S. pulled up some structural anomalies that may explain why this is planet in particular shows the most obvious signs of being a menstrual teenage girl.” Eadain turned toward the door and tapped a finger on the touch panel beside it, the domed window was immediately eclipsed by an opaque sheet of liquid black. Tiny flashes of light began to appear briefly on the screen; some large, some small. After a moment, larger objects began to take shape with small excerpts of script beside them. “Alrighty…” he mumbled to himself, stepping toward the window-turned-screen. “We are here.” He gestured at a small dot on the screen, watching as it zoomed in and the red dot became a detailed image of a planet’s rotating surface; the planet they were currently orbiting. Darien walked over to the image and studied it for a moment before asking “So, why did you bring down the blinds to show me something that I could have seen through the window?” “Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s what’s on the inside – not the outside -- that matters?” With his index finger, Eadain bisected the image of the planet, before bringing up his other had and motioned as if he were opening a book. The image of the planet followed what the motions demanded, and the two men were now looking at a bisected image of the planet, its innards depicted multiple colors with a legend for the definitions of each color.
