Not to mention... I had some vague story idea about many of the original members of Avalanche being turned into summon materia... the only thing keeping me from writing it (despite the fact that I have plenty of other stories already on my hands) is the fact that the main character would probably have to all be OCs... unless if, maybe, you could take one of those with the extended lifespans and have them summoning up their old friends... Yeah, like Nanaki. That would be really interesting, actually... *ponders*

Ha ha, that just conjured up the image of a Nanaki with a British accent. It was highly amusing.
Hmm, now that's actually an interesting concept about summons-- what if they are truly the manifestations of those who have passed away, either long ago or recently? That would obviously mean that the summons were once real, living beings, and perhaps not something just made out of magic.
Ifrit and Titan could have been either members of an extinct race or a mythological creature. Shiva and Ramuh could have been actual figures (Cetra, perhaps?) with legendary magical powers.
This strongly reminds me of a concept in Kingdom Hearts: although a world could be destroyed, a denizen could have such a strong heart that they would become a summoning stone, instead of being eradicated as well.

Ok, sorry about that. If this is turning into a plot idea thread, then its all good with me. ;D Hmm, I always thought what if Vincent always had the demons with him. They always portray the demons as if Hojo put them there. What if Hojo's experiments simply released something that was always there? What if Vincent's Chaos gene gave him abilities other than being able to harbor Chaos? AWESOME! ^-^ I've very jealous of that idea! Darn you for thinking it first!!! I've had ideas like that before. I'm using this personal theory in one of my own FanFictions but its open for grabs. What if the demons were originally pieces of Materia? Hojo shattered the original four orb into shards and inserted it into the bones of Vincent's body, mainly in his left hand. Neh? ;D

I had an idea that Tseng could be Vincent's son... any comments? Am I mad? Sick? A genius?
Oh and I thought Kalm would have an English accent, it looks like one of the random villages in Kent I occasionally get dragged to...

I love that idea, as it's sparked a fascinating scene in my head involving Tseng's mother, a funeral, and Reno not believing that Tseng had any parents; Reno believes that Tseng just formed out of stone on a mountain somewhere...
May I borrow that idea for a fanfic, please? I promise I'll give it back, give you credit and let you read it first. ;D

I could see him with that shocked face if he ever found out otherwise.

I think it'll be a short, chaptered fic... I wrote the prologue & part of the first chapter, already, so I wouldn't forget. Heh. I'm going to wait until I'm done with the first chapter to post it - when I do, though, you'll be the first to know! Well... besides me. It'd be kind of hard to post a story without knowing it.

Ooh, nice thread. What about an Aerith summon? Materia magic is supposed to come from the memories of those in the Lifestream or something like that, so what kind of materia would Aerith's memories create? Were the other summons in the game once real people, like the aeons in FFX? Holy God I inspired a thread on "what-if" ideas! What if Aerith became a minor goddess of nature and her powers may be handled through materia? I pretty much explore that idea with my fics. Aerith summons are awesome. They'd probably end up looking very cute (she ain't no fighter!). I once theorized that Yuna's Floral Fallal Special Dressphere is blatantly connected to Aerith, and I still do. Since I mix Valkyrie Profile with my ideas, Aerith might join a corps of GF and summon types keeping tabs upon a series of planets throughout the mortal plane. Then the King of Dragons writes a request that she rides his back... (That ain't the only thing Bahamut wants her to ride, hence a good deal of face-slapping and evil glares on their first day at work together ). In terms of language approximations, I always considered the lack of actual language conceptualizing (before Al-Bhed) an indicator that everyone spoke a common tongue, like: "SAY WHAT AGAIN! SAY WHAT AGAIN, I DARE YA--I DOUBLE-DARE YA--SAY WHAT ONE MORE GOD-DAMNED TIME!" "What?" "WHAT COUNTRY YOU FROM!" "W-What...?" "WHAT AIN'T NO COUNTRY I EVER HEARD OF... THEY SPEAK COMMON IN WHAT?" "What?" "COMMON MOTHER********! DO YOU SPEAK IT!" Pulp Fiction references aside (that's my personal favorite, by the way), I will concede that regional accents develop. It's the same in other worlds too. Okay... um... what if Baron Grims of Black Sheep didn't fall off the planet before the Lion War and, during King Delita's rule, he came back again with a disturbing vendetta planned on his former assistant?

What if Jenova is still evolving? ^_^
Don't mind me- that's just what I've always thought was happening with that crazy alien virus. ^_^
It's become the basis for my RE/FFVII crossover actually!! ;D
